I got problem a few days ago when try to install windows xp at my new computer ( pc ) , the problem is my pc not support cd-rom so I must think other way to install windows on my pc. I try to install windows using usb flash disk and 100 % works! , this way also useful for you if plan to install windows on mini notebook that not come with cd-rom such as Asus Eee pc.

what you need?

1. a flash disk ( mininum 1 GB )
2. computer victim ( without cd-rom )
3. computer master, with cd-rom ( to make bootable flash disk for windows xp installation )
4. cd windows xp
5. programs for windows xp installation
- USB_PREP8
- PEtoUSB

now we can start to install windows from usb flash disk :

1. plugin your usb flash disk to computer master and remember the drive, F:, G:, H:, O: or other letter.
2. extracks all files USB_PREP8 and PEtoUSB to a folder ( ex : C:/usb ) , please remember all files must be in one folder !!

3. now insert windows xp CD to your CD rom ( computer master )

4. now go to folder C:\USB and then run file “usb_prep8.bat” abd then you will see command prompt window that contain texts, and press any key to conntinue.

5. now you can see PEtoUSB program will appear and ask you to format your flash disk , click start.

6. after format process finished , close the PEtoUSB program ( dont close windows command prompt usb_prep8.bat !! ) , and now you can see at windows option 0 - 5 .

7. choose 1 to choose source for windows installation ( choose your cd rom drive that contain windows xp cd ) .

8. after that step, you ask to choose option and choose 3 to set your flash disk drive , if in drive F , type f and then enter.

9. after this step choose option 4 to start make installation module ( this step will run automatically ) , answer the confirmation with Y ” yes ” , this process take long time because this process will make a temp drive and then copy all windows files to your flash disk.

10. after step 9 finished, now yo have a bootable flash disk that able to install windows xp too.

11. plugin flash disk to computer victim to start installation, and dont forget boot your computer from usb flash disk.

12. now in the screen you will see 2 option for installation and choose the second option and windows installation will start automatically.
